En el 2015 viajé por primera vez a Serbia, en específico a una ciudad llamada Novi Sad, fue ahí donde vi por primera vez el mural llamado “La única verdad”, una pintura de grandes proporciones en el costado de un edificio que se encuentra en el corazón de la ciudad. La escena esencialmente mostraba unas figuras en negro tratando de controlar a unas marionetas que se defendían cortando sus cuerdas. A decir verdad, fue el único mural que me encontré a lo largo de mi recorrido en aquella ocasión en la que visité el país.
Fue en este año, cuando regresé a Novi Sad y realicé una serie de fotografías retratando escenas de la ciudad en invierno, en las cuales este mural sale de fondo en una de aquellas postales. Como no sabía nada sobre esta pintura me puse a investigar en internet y descubrí el nombre, artista y año en la que este mural fue realizado, estos datos me sirvieron únicamente como antecedente y para citarlos dentro de mi blog.
Pero justamente ayer, recibí un mensaje de mi pareja donde me decía que el mural que tanto me había gustado de Novi Sad había sido cubierto por una capa de pintura blanca. El mensaje lo acompañaba una fotografía que mostraba efectivamente el muro en blanco y ahora con unos garabatos de “penes” en lugar de aquel mural que le había estado dando una voz al edificio por más de 7 años.
Lo primero que hice fue utilizar una serie de emojis de asombro para manifestar mi enojo contra esta acción y después preguntar el porqué ante tal barbarie. El asunto se puede resumir en que la temporada de elecciones está próxima en Serbia y el gobierno actual trata de dar su mejor impresión limpiando la ciudad y entre ello implica también limpiar cualquier signo de libre pensamiento, al parecer.
No nací, ni crecí y ni tengo un gran lazo con Novi Sad, pero en mi experiencia puedo decir que es una ciudad muy agradable, las personas me trataron muy bien, eso sí, me fue difícil encontrar murales de este tipo como para que los anden suprimiendo. En lo general me parece que la acción realizada es una muestra más ante la insensibilidad que los gobiernos tienen hacia la cultura y las artes. Como siempre he dicho, estoy consiente que hay temas más importantes que tratar dentro de la agenda ciudadana como la salud o educación, pero el arte y la cultura son aspectos que mueven a la sociedad no sólo a la libre expresión, si no que también invitan a la crítica y reflexión.
Esperemos que el gobierno de Novi Sad pueda tomar cartas en el asunto y darle la oportunidad nuevamente al artista Remed—el cual cuenta con una amplia carrear artística— para que realice otro mural en este lienzo blanco nuevamente y a la vez enviar el mensaje de apoyar a la libre expresión y fomento a las artes.
Por lo pronto tú como lector puedes mostrarle tu apoyo al artista Remed dándole like a su fan page en Facebook y dejándole un mensaje alentador. Aunque no seamos culturas o países hermanos, recordemos que México fue uno de los grandes exponentes del muralismo en los años 20´s y de donde tomó un nuevo impulso como herramienta de expresión y crítica social.
